Libraries in the Digital Age by Holly Verdugo

The fast-changing world of technology is being incorporated  in our libraries today more than ever. In this digital age, librarians are seeing a redefinition of their roles. Libraries are moving from just a quiet place to read to more of a place of creating opportunities for creating collaboration. Librarians should stay open minded and willing to evolve with the changing times. According to "The Human Network" by John Palfrey, librarians who are thriving in this digital age "are agents of change, actively creating the future instead of constantly reacting to it- or worse, resisting it" (22). Libraries now offer more than just books for their patrons. For example, they offer 3D printers, e-books, and makerspace programs. With these new technologies offered, librarians need to keep up with the skills needed in order to help patrons understand and use them.

  1. I can't think of one area of life that the "Digital Age" hasn't put it's stamp on. Every occupation seems to be having to embrace the changes that technology and the digital age have bestowed on us. I agree that it is so important that we embrace all the changes with an open mind and with a sense of wonder so that libraries don't become obsolete in the future. Libraries as social and cultural hubs is a great way to usher in this new age. Just the 3D printer alone is mindblowing to me! Love the photo you chose of the books floating into the computer... or are they floating out of the computer?! LOL!
