Digital Storytelling by Holly Verdugo
Digital storytelling allows you to tell a story while being creative and having fun. It can include video, images, audio, music, and any other digital media. In the elementary school library that I work at, we use Storyline Online. The students are able to listen to various famous actors read a story, while seeing the pictures of the book on the screen. We, then, have the students participate in an activity that relates to the story once the video is over. According to the article, "Storytelling in the Context of Modern Library Technology", Kelly Czarnecki states, "The key to implementing digital storytelling is taking advantage of its interactivity- that is, the fact that those listening to the story are able to listen and create instead of simply being passive recipients" (13). This is why planning an activity along with the digital story is so important. The best part is that patrons and students can create their own digital story.
